One of the popular trends in scrapbooking is preserving family
recipes. Those recipes shared among family members and handed down from previous
generations are a very important part of our heritage. Have you ever noticed one
of the fun things we like to talk about at family gatherings is
Grandma's cooking or Aunt Mary's special casserole.
Why not gather recipes
from other friends and family at your next get-together? It's a wonderful and creative way to preserve
those treasured recipes.
Talk to other family members about your idea of
preserving family recipes and they may share some ideas of what to include. You
might be surprised at how many recipes you already have tucked into the pages of
your own cookbooks.

Ramona used the Apron Pocket pattern for these clever recipe holders. The recipe
itself is printed on a plain card stock then the edges are inked to coordinate
with the apron card. She attached one of the oven mitts to the ingredient
list so it can be easily pulled from the pocket, plus it looks just so cute.

Buttercream Frosting
Recipe...
Whisk together in a saucepan 5 Tbsp
flour and a cup of milk. Cook over medium heat until
starting to thicken and cook for a minute or two
more- don’t let it get too thick or it will be too
stiff when it cools. Turn into a flattish dish (like
an old-fashioned soup plate) and let cool, stirring
now and again. If the roux is lumpy when it cools,
just press it through a fine sieve.
Beat together a cup of unsalted butter and a cup of
granulated sugar until light (you really need an
electric hand mixer or stand mixer for this).
Beat in the cooled roux about tablespoons at a time.
As you beat and add the roux, the frosting turns
creamy instead of grainy from the sugar (I don’t
know how it does that! It’s like a small, wonderful
miracle.)
Add 1-2 tsp. vanilla and beat some more until it’s
light and creamy.

In the Kitchen
by Lori L Moore
Submitted by Ramona
Love, was understood, in the kitchen.
Where bread and cakes and pies and everday thoughts
filled the air and senses.
Common Sense was taught, in the kitchen. More
through action, than words. Grandma’s ways were
revered in the kitchen. From a touch of this, to a
dash of that, to a “good girl would never.”
Love was understood in the kitchen. Passed down, one
recipe at a time.
